First of all we try to do as much as we can in house. I know everybody's busy and I don't think patients like to be sent from one office to another for every little different type of treatment. Between Dr. Smith and I, we can cover cosmetic, limited braces, implants. We can cover most things here in the office. If we can't, we have a relationship with a respected specialist in the area that we can get you to see.
Otherwise, we both are active in continuing education so we stay abreast of all the advances. The staff is also involved with that. We have a great staff. I mean everybody's on board with the ideals that we try to practice by, and it makes it a rewarding and fun place to work.
I’m prone to cavities.
If you are prone to cavities, we offer dental sealants designed to keep disease- and decay-causing substances away from your teeth. This is a great way to prevent the need for major dental work in regard to decay.
I have teeth sensitivity issues.
If you have sensitive teeth, you may be experiencing enamel erosion. To prevent enamel problems, we offer fluoride treatments and varnishes. Fluoride strengthens enamel and discourages erosion. It also helps prevent cavities.

I think I have gum disease.
Number one is educating the patient of what's happening, why it's happening, and why they need to do the things they need to be doing. Once that's done, we go ahead and actually numb the patient up. It's called a deep cleaning or scale root cleaning. There's different terms for it. Basically they have a lot of infection and calculus built up under the gums that we really can't get to unless we numb them up. Once all that's cleaned out, we give them a couple of months, make sure they're doing the things they need to be doing at home, and have them back and evaluate the results. Then we go from there as far as the treatment.
That patient is usually looking at getting their teeth (cleaned) every three, four months, rather than every six months. That just depends on the individual. Some people come back after three months, everything's looking good. They come in in three months, everything looks good. There's not much for us to do, then we're going to move them out to four months. Just try to treat it for each individual patient.
