Again, crowns are meant to strengthen the teeth from a structural standpoint. In the anterior area for cosmetics, it's a more permanent solution than some of the bonding. As far as bridges go, that's when you're replacing a tooth. It's kind of like crowning the tooth on either side of the space and then all 3 of these teeth are made together and cemented into the mouth. It's not something you take in and out. That's a big advantage over, say a partial denture, which is going to be a lot of hardware in the mouth, and a little bulky, and I just don't like taking it in and out.
As far as replacing teeth with bridges, we don't do that nearly as much as we used to because of the advent of implants. Whereas implants, you can go in and you don't have to crown the teeth on either side. Sometimes they don't need a crown. You're having to cut those teeth down for a bridge when they don't really need it. Implants, you can leave those teeth alone and put the implant in.
The other advantage implants is once you do a bridge, you're got all 3 of those teeth tied together. If anything ever happens to one of those teeth it just happened to all 3 of those teeth. You've got to deal with that. With implants, you keep everything separate. If anything ever happens to one of those individual teeth, you need to deal with that one tooth.

What Is A Dental Crown?
If you break a tooth or even if you need a cosmetic fix, a crown or bridge, it's a good long term treatment. I've seen crowns, Dr. Reese has put some in the 80s and I've looked at them just last week and they're fine. Filling material, it has a life span, it depends. Crowns and bridges, they're not all going to last 30 years. It all depends on how you take care of them. They're a great aesthetic option as well. Sometimes people say, "Oh, why don't you just do a veneer here?" A veneer might get you 10 years, a crown might get you longer, a lot longer if you take care of it. Just knowing when to make those judgement calls is a good thing. Crowns, they change peoples lives. I put a couple on my family members that went, "Wow. This looks a heck of a lot better." For some functional reason, some for cosmetics. They don't know how good it is until after they've done it and it's over with and then they're very pleased and appreciative.
Types Of Dental Crowns
Here at Mountain View Dental in Acworth, GA, we offer a wide variety of options for dental crowns. Porcelain is the most common because it is tooth-colored and blends right in with your natural smile. Porcelain is great for repairing teeth near the front of the mouth.
We also offer porcelain fused to gold crowns, all-gold crowns, e.max, Empress, and zirconia. All of these dental crowns are considered more durable than the typical, porcelain crown and can be used on teeth near the back of the mouth that experience more stress. And aside from the all-gold crowns, they are able to be crafted to look just like your natural teeth! Talk to our team in Acworth, GA to determine which of these material options is best for you.
Inlays And Onlays
For damage that isn’t quite extensive enough to require a dental crown, we offer inlays and onlays! These restorations cover only a portion of the tooth to repair it from damage. Inlays repair the biting surface only while onlays can repair damage on the biting surface, sides, or cusps of the tooth.
Do you have a missing tooth? We can use crowns to build a fixed dental bridge for tooth replacement purposes. Dental Bridges are crafted using three or more crowns. The end crowns are bonded to the natural healthy teeth surrounding your gap, while the middle crown(s) fills the gap. This is a reliable, cost-effective option and great for many cases of tooth loss. Talk to our team in Acworth, GA to determine if a fixed dental bridge is the best tooth replacement option for you.
